With the news that a bar near CPAC had served drinks named after possible GOP presidential candidates, I decided to try my own hand at mixology, creating a that combines libertarian darling Rand Paul’s Kentucky roots with the tastes of his many college-aged supporters. The Rand Paul is the ultimate in libertarian cocktails, saying, ‘to hell with heavy regulation, I want a heavy pour’.
2.5 oz. moonshine/clear whiskey
2 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 dash of orange juice
Pour whiskey, Cointreau and lime juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice; shake vigorously, then strain into a margarita glass and add small dash of the orange juice. Savor the whiskey’s subtle bite and the notes of citrus before vomiting, convulsing and going blind because guess what: the whiskey’s distillery was unregulated and those limes were transported in a truck covered in gram-negative Legionella bacteria. Also, that Cointreau you used? It’s an Angolan counterfeit made in an old lead mine.
The orange juice was okay, though.
Congratulations on making a Rand Paul cocktail!
