The Destruction of Mecca Foreign Policy | September 22, 2015
The recent collapse of one of the world’s largest cranes in Mecca puts to the forefront the craze of construction that’s taken place in the city over the last few years. Fun facts and more about life aboard the papal plane The Crux | September 18, 2015
From the ‘fun facts’: ‘Shepherd One’ was made up by the U.S. media, the Pope’s plane (which is chartered from Air Italia on the outbound journey; on the ride back he takes the host country’s national carrier) has a normal, very boring callsign; the reporters traveling economy on these planes still have to pay full business-class fare – thus, the Vatican pays almost nothing to charter these jets.
